A secondary leaving certificate is rarely one document
Most countries split what the United States puts on a single diploma across two or three documents, and sending one without the others is the most common reason a file comes back incomplete:
- Colombia issues a diploma de bachiller and, separately, an acta de grado — the graduation record. Institutions frequently want both.
- Brazil issues a certificado de conclusão do ensino médio alongside the histórico escolar, which lists the subjects and marks.
- France separates the diplôme du baccalauréat from the relevé de notes that carries the grades.
- India issues board certificates for the 10th and 12th standards, each with its own mark sheet.
- Germany's Abitur certificate carries both the subject results and a points total on one document.
- The Philippines uses Form 137, the permanent record, and Form 138, the report card.
Grades come across as they are
Secondary grading scales differ wildly — Germany runs 1 to 6 with 1 as the best mark, France marks out of 20, India reports percentages and divisions, Brazil uses 0 to 10. A translation reproduces the scale the document uses, along with any key printed on the reverse explaining it.
Converting those marks into a US grade point average is credential evaluation, not translation. It is done by an evaluation agency, and a translator who did it would be adding content the original does not contain. If the school you are applying to asked for an evaluation, they need both: the evaluator reads our translation and produces their report from it.
What to send
Send every page, front and back. The reverse of a secondary certificate often carries the grading key, the subject list, a registration number or the authentication stamps, and all of it is part of what the receiving office reads.
If you are enrolling a child rather than applying to a university, school records is the page you want, and immunization records are usually asked for at the same time.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.
A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at $0.10 per word.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need the diploma or the transcript?
Usually both. The certificate proves you finished; the transcript or mark sheet shows what you studied and how you did. Send whatever the institution listed.
Will you convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. We reproduce the grading scale as the document states it. Converting it is credential evaluation, which an evaluation agency performs.
My certificate has a stamp and a grading key on the back.
Send the back as well. Both sides are translated, and the grading key is often the part that makes the marks intelligible.
