Five years of secundaria and the bachiller title

Nicaraguan secondary school runs from 7th to 11th grade; the last two years form the bachillerato cycle, and graduates receive the title of Bachiller — general, or technical where the program was technical. The marks are on a separate certificate of grades (certificado de notas) covering each year, and offices that ask for a diploma almost always want that certificate too.

Marks are out of 100. The pass was 51 in the 1980s and has been 60 since; recent records add qualitative bands — Aprendizaje Avanzado (AV, 90-100), Satisfactorio (AS, 76-89), Elemental (AE, 60-75) and Inicial (AI, below 60). Numbers and bands are both translated as printed; their US meaning is for a credential evaluator.

Apostille, stamps and US uses

Nicaragua has been a party to the Apostille Convention since 2013, so documents prepared for use abroad may carry an apostille; earlier documents may carry authentication stamps from the Ministry of Education instead. Whatever is on the page, front and back, is translated, including registration numbers and the signatures of the school director and secretary where they appear.

Uses in the US: placement of teenagers in school (see school enrollment translations), community college and adult education admission, employers and evaluation before university — see the Nicaraguan transcript page. Names follow the passport and the birth certificate. See our Spanish page.

What USCIS requires

Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.

State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.

A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.

Frequently asked questions

My certificate shows "AS" next to the marks.

That is the Aprendizaje Satisfactorio band (76-89). We translate the band and the number as printed.

Do I send the title or the grades?

Usually both. The title proves completion; the certificate of grades shows what you studied.

Will you convert my marks to a GPA?

No. The marks and bands are translated as printed; a credential evaluator does any conversion.
