What courts usually ask for
Most courts ask for a complete English translation of any foreign-language exhibit, together with a statement from the translator attesting that the translation is accurate and that they are competent in both languages. That is exactly what a certified translation contains.
Requirements are set by each court, not nationally, and they vary. Some family and probate courts, and some state courts, also ask for the translator's signature to be notarized. Always check the local rules or ask the clerk before you file.

Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.
A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at $0.10 per word.
Frequently asked questions
Do courts accept certified translations?
Yes. A certified translation with a signed statement of accuracy is the standard form courts ask for. Individual courts set their own rules, so confirm with the clerk whether yours also requires notarization.
Does a court translation need to be notarized?
Some courts require it and many do not. A notary verifies the identity of the person signing, not the accuracy of the translation. Notarization can be added at checkout if your court asks for it.
Can a family member translate documents for court?
It is not advisable. Courts look for an impartial translator, and a translation prepared by a party to the case, or a relative, invites a challenge to its accuracy.
Do you provide interpreters for hearings?
Written translation and spoken interpretation are separate services. Courts usually supply interpreters for proceedings; eVerbary also offers interpretation separately.
