What a certified translation is
A certified translation is for official use, where whoever receives it requires a certification verifying that the translation is complete and accurate. It is commonly required by U.S. Immigration (USCIS), universities, courts and many local, state and federal government offices.

Complete
The translation must be a literal, word-for-word translation of all visible text. Translators cannot add or remove text, or interpret the meaning behind it. On a birth certificate that rarely shows; on a document full of nuanced sentences it certainly does. The requirement exists so your receiver can be confident the translation represents the original exactly.
Accurate
The certification must attest that the translation was performed by a qualified translator fluent in the language pair. We only use professional human translators and 100% of our workforce meets that bar. An authorized signer attests to it on the certification, and revisions are included free so the final translation is right.
What we add to the packet
We take extra steps when preparing your translation packet so it is accepted by the widest range of receivers. Every certified translation is on company letterhead, with the order number and page number across all pages, our contact information and our ATA corporate member number. The certification also states that the translator has no relation, personal or otherwise, to the owner of the document. When a filing calls for it we can have the certification notarized to authenticate the identity of the authorized signer, and send you original copies with wet ink signatures.

What is a certified translation?+
A word-for-word human translation delivered on eVerbary letterhead, including a signed and stamped Certificate of Translation Accuracy, for official use as required by U.S. Immigration (USCIS), universities, courts, and many local, state and federal governments.
Can I certify my own translation?+
Typically you cannot certify your own translation, but it depends on the specific requirements of your receiver. Always verify what they ask for before ordering so you make the correct selections.
What is the difference between notarized and certified?+
The certification attests to the thoroughness and accuracy of the translation and to the qualifications of the translator, and is signed by the translator or by an authorized signer representing them. Notarization authenticates the identity of whoever signed the certification. It adds a layer of validation, so the receiver can be confident the certification is genuine.
What will you deliver to me?+
A non-editable PDF with a signed and stamped English Certificate of Translation Accuracy. Our certified translations are on company letterhead carrying our ATA member number, phone number and address; they include the order number and page number on every page; they are formatted similar to, but not exactly like, the source document; they are word-for-word, which means some phrasing may read awkwardly because we cannot interpret meaning, only translate exactly; and they do not include a copy of your source files in the same PDF unless you ask. If you order a physical copy we ship an unfolded translation with wet ink signatures, printed on 24 lb. paper on a colour laser printer, in a cardboard USPS envelope. We do not print your source documents, since you already hold the originals.
How are pages counted?+
A page is up to 250 words of source text, regardless of how that text sits on the physical page. A dense single sheet can therefore count as more than one page. Send your documents through the free quote form if you want the exact count before ordering.
How long does it take?+
Delivery starts at 24 hours, and same-day delivery is available. Longer documents and larger files take proportionally more time; the estimate you see at checkout is based on our own historical delivery data.
What if something needs correcting?+
Revisions are included. You can request one from your order page within 30 days of delivery, free of charge, as long as the source material has not changed.
