German documents we translate
German civil records come from the Standesamt: a Geburtsurkunde for a birth, an Eheurkunde for a marriage, a Sterbeurkunde for a death. Since 2009 the older Abstammungsurkunde has been replaced by a certified printout from the birth register, which shows more detail than the certificate it replaced. Austria and Switzerland issue German-language records in their own layouts, and we translate those as well.
We also translate police certificates (Führungszeugnis), school and university records, employment references and driving licences.
Grades are reproduced, not converted
German school and university records use a scale from 1 to 6 in which 1 is the best mark — the reverse of a US scale — and an Abiturzeugnis also carries a points total. A translation reproduces what the document says. Turning those marks into a US grade point average is credential evaluation, a separate service performed by an evaluation agency, and a translator who did it would be inventing content.

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.
A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at $0.10 per word.

Do you convert my German grades into a US GPA?
No. We translate the transcript exactly as issued, including the grading scale. Converting grades is credential evaluation, which an evaluation agency performs.
Can you translate a Führungszeugnis?
Yes. German police certificates are translated in full, including the closing statement when no entries are recorded.
My documents are from Austria or Switzerland.
