Indian records and the act they cite

Indian civil documents are registered locally: births and deaths by the municipal corporation or gram panchayat under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, marriages under the Hindu Marriage Act 1955 or the Special Marriage Act 1954. Which act a marriage certificate cites is part of what the document proves, so it is translated exactly as printed rather than paraphrased.

We translate birth and marriage certificates, affidavits, mark sheets and degree certificates, police clearance certificates and identity documents.

Bilingual forms with Devanagari entries

Many Indian certificates are printed bilingually: the headings in English, the entries handwritten or stamped in Devanagari. A document that looks half-translated already still needs a full translation, because the part carrying your name, your parents' names and the village is the part in Hindi.

Names transliterate several ways from Devanagari. We match the spelling on your passport, and where a document genuinely disagrees with it, we say so rather than quietly choosing one.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.

A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at $0.10 per word.

Frequently asked questions

My certificate already has English headings. Do I still need a translation?

Yes. The printed headings are in English but the entries are not, and the receiving office needs the whole document readable in English.

Do you work with other Indian languages?

Yes. If your document is in Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu or Marathi, say so when you place the order so it goes to the right translator.

Do you translate the affidavit attached to my certificate?

Yes. Supporting affidavits are translated along with the certificate; they are part of what you are filing.

Ready to get started?
