The shenasnameh is a booklet, not a page

The Iranian birth certificate, the shenasnameh, is an identity booklet rather than a single sheet. Entries are added to it over a lifetime: marriage, children, and finally the death of the holder. Every page carrying an entry is part of the record, and a submission missing pages is a common reason for someone to be asked for more evidence.

We also translate the national identity card (kart-e melli), marriage and divorce certificates, university degrees and transcripts and court judgments.

Solar Hijri dates, and documents from Afghanistan

Iranian documents are dated in the Solar Hijri calendar, whose year begins around 21 March. Conversion to a Gregorian date is therefore not a fixed offset and has to be worked out for each date, not applied in bulk.

Documents from Afghanistan — the tazkira, for example — are usually written in Dari, a variety of Persian, and we translate those as well. If yours is in Pashto, tell us when you order.

Documents by country

Each of these pages describes the document as that country issues it — the authority, the format, the annotations and what offices in the United States ask for.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.

A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.

Frequently asked questions

How much of my shenasnameh needs translating?

The pages that carry entries. If you are unsure, send the whole booklet and we will tell you what the receiving office normally expects.

Are Solar Hijri dates converted to Western dates?

Yes, each date is converted individually, since the Persian year starts in late March and no single offset works for every date.

Do you translate Afghan documents?

Yes. Most are in Dari and are translated the same way; tell us in advance if your document is in Pashto.

Ready to get started?

Upload your documents and receive your certified translation, typically within 24 hours.
