The Central Business Registry
Afghan companies are entered in the Afghanistan Central Business Registry under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, which issues a registration certificate and a business licence (jawaz) with a stated period of validity. Older files name AISA, the investment support agency that handled registration before the function moved.
We name the issuing body as printed. A certificate from AISA is the register as it then was, not a defective document.
The licence expires, and that matters
The Afghan business licence carries a term, and an expired licence is the commonest reason a foreign office questions an Afghan corporate packet. The registration certificate and the licence are different documents, and offices asking for "the registration" frequently want both.
The company also holds a TIN from the Ministry of Finance, a separate number reproduced exactly.
Solar Hijri dates
Afghan documents are dated in the Solar Hijri calendar, whose year begins at the spring equinox, so a year does not map cleanly onto a single Gregorian one — 1400 spans parts of 2021 and 2022. We convert each date individually rather than subtracting a constant, and show both.
A date converted by arithmetic alone is wrong roughly a quarter of the time, which is why it is done per document.
Dari, Pashto and the names
Afghan corporate documents appear in Dari or Pashto, and a file often contains both. They are different languages sharing a script, and we translate each rather than assuming one is a copy of the other.
