The Commercial Register is fully public
Bulgaria keeps its Commercial Register at the Registry Agency, and it publishes the constitutive documents themselves — not merely an extract. The articles, the annual accounts and the filings are downloadable free by anyone.
So before you order anything, check what is already online: frequently the document a foreign office wants is a free download, and you only need the translation.
EIK, and the BULSTAT before it
The EIK is the unified identification code, a nine-digit number that replaced the older BULSTAT code and doubles as the VAT number with a BG prefix. Older documents carry a BULSTAT and newer ones an EIK, and for most companies they are the same digits.
The number is how the company is found in the public register, so it is reproduced exactly.
OOD, EOOD and AD
The druzhestvo s ogranichena otgovornost (OOD) is the limited liability form and EOOD its single-owner variant — the E carries real information and is part of the legal name. AD is the joint-stock form.
The register states each upravitel — manager — and whether they represent the company jointly or severally, and that clause is translated precisely.
Cyrillic, and the official transliteration
Bulgarian is written in Cyrillic and Bulgaria legislated an official transliteration in 2009, which does not always match what a company has used commercially abroad. A name may therefore appear in two defensible spellings.
