Diploma, pre-university year, and the 2019 change

Under the older system an Iranian student finished a three-year high school course with the دیپلم (diploma) and then a one-year pre-university course (پیش‌دانشگاهی) with its own certificate; the two together are what proves completed secondary education. The 6-3-3 structure introduced from 2013 absorbed the pre-university year, and since 2019 graduates receive a single upper-secondary completion diploma after grade 12. Files from before and after the change look different, and each is translated as issued.

The list of grades (ریز نمرات) is separate from the diploma and is what evaluators read. Grades run from 0 to 20 with 10 the pass, so a 17 is a strong mark; they stay as printed. The Ministry of Education's name, seals and any verification stamps are part of the document and are translated with it.

Solar Hijri dates and the Konkur

Iranian school documents are dated in the Solar Hijri calendar. Each date is given as written with its Gregorian equivalent in brackets, and a school year, which starts in Mehr in late September, spans two Gregorian years: 1399–1400 (2020–2021). The university entrance exam (کنکور, Konkur) has its own results, separate from the diploma.

The typical US uses are college admission, evaluation by WES or ECE (see credential evaluation) and school enrollment for teenagers (see school enrollment). Names follow your passport. See the Iranian transcript and birth certificate pages and our Persian page.

What USCIS requires

Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.

State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.

A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need both the diploma and the pre-university certificate?

If you finished under the old system, usually yes, each with its list of grades. Since 2019 there is a single diploma.

My document says 1399. Will that confuse a US office?

It is the Solar Hijri year. We keep it and add the Gregorian years in brackets.

Will you convert 18/20 to a GPA?

No. Grades stay on the 0-20 scale; WES or ECE does the conversion.
