Two Greek birth documents, and they are not the same
Greece issues two different records of the same birth. The lixiarchiki praxi gennisis is the registration act drawn up by the registry office (Lixiarcheio) at the time of birth; the pistopoiitiko gennisis is a certificate drawn from the municipal roll (Dimotologio) and says less. Offices ask for one or the other and rarely explain the difference, so check which one you were told to file before you order.
We also translate marriage certificates, divorce judgments, university degrees and transcripts, criminal record certificates and military service documents. Cyprus issues its records in Greek too, in its own layout.
The same name, two Latin spellings
Greek names reach Latin script through more than one transliteration convention, and the older and newer conventions disagree — the same surname can appear with a b or a v, a ch or an h. Greek passports follow the current standard, older documents often do not, and a family file ends up with two spellings of one name.
We follow the spelling on your passport and keep it the same across every document in the file, noting where an original genuinely differs instead of quietly correcting it.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.
A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at $0.10 per word.
Frequently asked questions
Which Greek birth document do I need?
That depends on the office receiving it. The registration act is the fuller of the two; the municipal certificate is a summary. We translate whichever you have.
My name is spelled differently on my passport and my certificate.
We match the passport and flag the difference. Rewriting the certificate to agree with the passport would misrepresent the original.
Do you translate documents from Cyprus?
Yes. Cypriot civil records are issued in Greek and are translated the same way.
