The child health booklet

Greek childhood immunisation is recorded in the βιβλιάριο υγείας παιδιού — the child health booklet — with each dose dated and stamped by the paediatrician or health centre that gave it.

Proof is required for school enrolment, so families keep it. It is what an I-693 needs, and applicants routinely send hospital paperwork instead.

AMKA, and where the record sits

Every Greek resident has an AMKA, the social security number used across the health system, and care runs through EOPYY-contracted providers, public hospitals and a large private sector.

The record sits with the provider that treated the patient. Greece has also built a national electronic prescription and health record system from which a patient can obtain a summary. We name the source.

BCG, and the Greek schedule

Greece has used BCG in defined circumstances rather than universally, so a Greek record may or may not show it and its absence is not a gap.

Entries use product names and Greek abbreviations. We give the entry as written and the standard English designation without mapping schedules onto one another.

Transliteration, and the patronymic

Greek romanises several ways and Greek medical documents may render a patient name differently from their passport. A great many apparent discrepancies in Greek-American files are transliteration and nothing more.

Greek documents also carry a patronymic — the father's name — as identifying data rather than a middle name, and we label it as what it is. See our Greek page.
