School-based vaccination, and the record it leaves
Hungary delivers a substantial part of its childhood immunisation through schools, administered by the school doctor and nurse at defined grades, alongside the infant schedule given at the paediatrician.
So a Hungarian immunisation history is split between the child health booklet and school records, and a parent who only has the booklet has only part of it. For an I-693 both are needed, and the district health authority can issue a consolidated certificate.
The TAJ number
Hungarian medical documents carry the TAJ — the nine-digit social insurance number — which is the identifier the health system uses, separate from the personal identification number and the tax identifier.
It does not change with a name and it is the cross-check across a Hungarian file. We reproduce all of the identifiers a document carries, as labelled.
BCG, and the Hungarian schedule
Hungary gives BCG in the first weeks of life, which is not a US vaccine and leaves a scar an examiner will ask about, and operates a compulsory schedule with high recorded coverage.
Entries use product names and Hungarian abbreviations, and we give the entry as written with the standard English designation.
Surname first, and the accents
Hungarian writes the family name before the given name, so a record reading Nagy István belongs to István Nagy. We make the order explicit, because a medical record matched against a passport is where the reversal surfaces.
Hungarian uses ő and ű alongside the more familiar accented vowels, and stripping them changes names. See our Hungarian page.
