Hungarian writes the surname first
Nagy János is Mr Nagy, not Mr János. Hungarian puts the family name before the given name, on documents as well as in speech, and a form that assumes the opposite silently swaps a person's names. It is the single most common thing to get wrong on a Hungarian document, and it is invisible unless you know to look for it.
There is a second layer to it. A married woman's name can be formed as Nagy Jánosné — meaning "Mrs János Nagy" — which contains her husband's full name and none of her own. Hungarian law allows several marriage-name forms, and older documents use the ones that erase the wife's given name entirely. We render what the document says and make the structure explicit, so nobody reading it in English concludes that two documents describe two different people.

A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.
Frequently asked questions
Which of my names is the surname?
On a Hungarian document the first one. We identify it explicitly in the translation so a US reader does not reverse them.
My mother's certificate does not show her given name at all.
That is the -né marriage-name form, which is built from the husband's full name. It is normal on older Hungarian documents and we explain it in the translation rather than leaving it to be misread.
Do you translate Hungarian documents from Romania or Slovakia?
