Health status percentage, which runs backwards
Hungary assesses a health status percentage (egészségi állapot) in which a lower number means worse health — the figure states how much health remains, not how much is lost.
So a Hungarian assessment of 30% describes a severely impaired person, and a US reader reading it as a 30% disability has it inverted. We state the direction of the scale every time.
Rehabilitation and invalidity benefits
The assessment by the rehabilitation authority determines whether a person receives a rehabilitation benefit — where rehabilitation is considered feasible — or an invalidity benefit where it is not.
Which benefit was awarded is itself a finding about prognosis. We name the benefit and translate the reasoning rather than only the percentage.
The disability support, on a separate track
A separate fogyatékossági támogatás — disability support — is awarded for defined severe conditions on its own criteria, independent of the health status percentage.
