One country, three official languages, two alphabets

Bosnia and Herzegovina issues documents in Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian, in Latin and Cyrillic script, and which combination you get depends on the entity, the municipality and the year. Forms printed in more than one of them at once are ordinary. None of that makes a document irregular, and we translate whichever version you hold.

Civil records are extracts from the registers — izvod iz matične knjige rođenih and its marriage and death equivalents — issued by the municipality, and they carry the thirteen-digit JMBG, reproduced exactly.

Records from the former Yugoslavia and from the war years

Someone born before 1992 may need a record from a registry that is now in another country, and registers in some municipalities were destroyed or displaced during the war, so what exists today can be a reconstructed entry or a court decision establishing the facts. Those are translated as what they are, without dressing them up as an ordinary certificate.

We also translate criminal record certificates, diplomas, statements and court decisions. The diacritics č, ć, š, ž and đ are kept as issued: ć and č are different letters.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.

A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.

Frequently asked questions

My document is in Cyrillic and my passport is in Latin letters.

Normal in Bosnia. We translate the Cyrillic and match the Latin spelling on your passport.

I have a court decision instead of a birth certificate.

That happens where registers were lost. We translate it as the document it is; whether it is accepted is for the receiving office.

Do you translate documents from Serbia, Croatia or Montenegro too?

Yes. Families routinely hold documents from several of them and we translate the set together.
