Forgalmi and törzskönyv, and only one is ownership
Hungary issues the forgalmi engedély, the registration certificate carried in the vehicle, and the törzskönyv, a separate ownership document kept at home.
The törzskönyv is the ownership title. On a financed car the lender holds it, so a seller without one is almost certainly still paying. We name which document you have.
The origin inspection, which is mandatory
Hungary requires an eredetiségvizsgálat — an origin inspection verifying the VIN and chassis have not been tampered with — before most transfers, and the certificate is valid for a limited period.
That check has no US equivalent and it is a real precondition. Its certificate belongs in the file and we translate it.
The sale contract, and the deadlines
A transfer is made by a written adásvételi szerződés with prescribed content, and both parties must report it within short statutory deadlines — the seller within five days, the buyer within fifteen.
A late buyer is fined and the seller stays on the record meanwhile. Those dates matter and we keep them prominent.
Surname first, and the identifiers
Hungarian writes the family name before the given name, and documents record the mother's birth name as an identifying field.
