Prometna dozvola and knjižica vozila
Croatia issues the prometna dozvola, the traffic licence carried in the vehicle, and historically a knjižica vozila, a vehicle booklet holding the technical data and the ownership record.
The booklet was phased out for new registrations, so a newer car has only the licence. Both arrangements are correct for their date and we say which the file holds.
The annual registration, and the sticker
Croatian registration is renewed annually together with the technical inspection and compulsory insurance, and the licence carries the validity date.
An expired licence is not evidence that the car is unowned, only that the annual renewal lapsed. That distinction matters in an estate or an import file and we state it.
The transfer, and the tax
A used vehicle sale between individuals attracts a transfer tax payable by the buyer, and the transfer is filed at a police administration or an authorised station within a short deadline.
The tax receipt is part of the file. We translate it with the licence.
The OIB, and the plates
Owners are identified by OIB, eleven digits used for people and companies alike.
