Title, registration, or one document doing both

In the United States the title proves who owns a car and the registration proves it may be driven. Most other countries split that differently, or not at all:

The numbers are what a clerk checks

A DMV clerk or a customs officer reads a translated title for one purpose first: to match the vehicle identification or chassis number on the paper against the number stamped on the car. That number, the engine number, the plate, the dates and the full vehicle description — make, model, displacement, weight, colour, number of seats — are reproduced exactly as printed, never reformatted and never tidied up.

Both sides of the document are translated. On a great many registration certificates the reverse carries the ownership history, the technical data or the official stamps, and a translation of the front alone is an incomplete document.

Where a translated title ends up

Titling and registering an imported vehicle at a state DMV, customs clearance on the way in, an insurance application, a private sale, or a court matter where ownership is in dispute. If you are importing the car yourself, the import paperwork travels with it, and the DMV will want your driver's licence translated too.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.

A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at $0.10 per word.

Frequently asked questions

Do you translate both sides of the registration document?

Yes. The reverse often carries the ownership history, the technical data and the stamps, and leaving it out makes the translation incomplete.

Will my VIN or chassis number look different in the translation?

No. It is reproduced character for character. It is the number a clerk compares against the car itself.

Can you translate a Japanese export certificate?

Yes, including the era-year dates, which are converted to the Gregorian calendar individually.

Ready to get started?

Upload your documents and receive your certified translation, typically within 24 hours.
