One language, twenty registries

Arabic documents come from registries that have little in common beyond the script. Egypt issues computerized birth certificates from the Civil Status Organization; Syria proves a family with a family civil extract (ikhraj qaid ʿaʾili) listing every member of the household; Iraq has moved from the old nationality certificate and civil status ID to the Unified National Card; Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia issue civil records in Arabic and French, sometimes on the same page; Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan and the Gulf states each have their own forms.

Marriage and divorce in most of these countries go through a Sharia or religious court, so the "marriage certificate" is often a marriage contract (ʿaqd zawaj) with witnesses and a dower clause, and a divorce is a court record of a talaq. Those are translated in full, every clause included. See the Egyptian and Syrian birth certificate pages.

Names without a single surname

In Iraq, the Gulf and Yemen a name is commonly a chain — given name, father's name, grandfather's name, then a family or tribal name — and US forms that expect one first and one last name break it apart in different ways on different documents. The translation keeps the chain as written and in order, so an officer can see that two forms of the name are the same person.

Romanization varies just as much: Mohammed, Muhammad and Mohamed are the same name. We follow the spelling on your passport, or the one you give us when you order, and use it for every name in the file.

Hijri dates and right-to-left layouts

Saudi documents date by the Hijri calendar, and many others carry Hijri and Gregorian dates side by side. A Hijri date is translated as written with its Gregorian equivalent in brackets — 15 Rajab 1445 AH (January 27, 2024) — so nothing is replaced and nothing has to be converted by the reader.

Tables, columns and stamps are rearranged into English reading order without changing what belongs to what, and the Eastern Arabic numerals (٠١٢٣) used on many forms are given in Western figures, digit for digit.

Documents by country

Each of these pages describes the document as that country issues it — the authority, the format, the annotations and what offices in the United States ask for.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.

A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.

Frequently asked questions

Is a certified Arabic translation accepted by USCIS?

Yes. USCIS asks for a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate (8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)); every translation carries that signed certification, and acceptance is guaranteed or your money back.

My marriage certificate is a contract from a Sharia court.

That is normal across much of the Arab world. We translate the whole contract — parties, witnesses, the dower and every clause — not just the names.

My documents spell my name in different ways.

Common with Arabic romanization. We follow your passport, or the spelling you give us, consistently throughout.

My document has Hijri dates.

We translate each date as written and add the Gregorian date in brackets, so both are on the page.

My Moroccan record is half Arabic, half French.

We translate both languages on the page at the same price.

How much does Arabic to English translation cost?

$24.95 per page with no word cap, the same as every other language, with the signed certification, the translation of every stamp and seal, and formatting included. Most certificates are one or two pages and come back within 24 hours.
