A court record, not a registry form
An Iraqi marriage is concluded or recorded before the Personal Status Court (محكمة الأحوال الشخصية), and the document people hold is the court's marriage contract (عقد الزواج): the parties, the guardian where there is one, the witnesses, the dower (mahr, prompt and deferred) and the judge's confirmation. It is translated in full, every clause included.
Many marriages are performed by a cleric outside court and ratified by the court afterwards; the ratification judgment (تصديق زواج خارج المحكمة) then is the marriage record, with the date of the religious ceremony and the date of ratification both on it.
