A certificate issued when it is needed
Yemeni birth certificates (شهادة ميلاد) are issued by the Civil Status and Civil Registry Authority of the Ministry of Interior. The current certificate is a card of about 5 by 8 inches with security fibres and printed background; older ones vary — solid green, orange or cream cards, or A3 or A4 sheets — and often carry payment stamps under a wet seal. Each is translated in full, including the stamps.
Most Yemenis did not register births when they occurred, and certificates are issued at any time afterwards, on the information given by the person asking. A certificate issued decades after the birth is therefore normal — the State Department says as much; the translation shows the date of birth and the date of issue clearly, so the two are not confused. See our Arabic page.
Name chains and competing authorities
A Yemeni name is a chain of given name, father's name, grandfather's name and often a family or tribal name, and the same person's documents may give more or fewer links. The translation keeps the chain in order and follows your passport's spelling, which matters when a parent's name has to match across several documents.
Because of the conflict, different authorities issue documents in different parts of the country, and the issuing office and seal on a certificate can differ from one city to another. We translate the office and seals exactly as printed; whether a particular document is accepted is up to the office receiving it. For visa cases, see what the NVC asks for.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.
State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.
A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.
