Kazakh, Russian and Soviet certificates
Kazakhstan registers births through the civil registry system of the Ministry of Justice; applications are made at Public Service Centres or online at egov.kz. Kazakh is the state language and Russian an official one, so a certificate (свидетельство о рождении; in Kazakh, туу туралы куәлік) can carry both, and certificates issued before 1991 are Soviet forms in Russian. If yours was reissued later, the date of registration and the date of issue are both translated, so an officer can see which is which. See our Russian page.
We translate Russian. Where Kazakh and Russian text sit side by side, we translate the Russian; if any entry, stamp or note appears only in Kazakh, or the whole certificate is in Kazakh, send it through the quote form first, since Kazakh is not one of our listed languages. Kazakhstan has issued apostilles since 2000, and the apostille is translated with the certificate.
Names in Russian and Kazakh forms
Soviet-era and many later documents write Kazakh names in Russian form — a surname ending in -ov or -ova and a patronymic in -ovich or -ovna — while many people now use Kazakh forms without those endings, with uly (son of) or kyzy (daughter of) after the father's name. A parent's certificate and a child's can therefore spell the same family name differently. The translation keeps each document as written and follows your passport's Latin spelling, so the link between them stays visible.
The patronymic is a legal part of the name and is translated, not dropped, even though US forms have no field for it. For a visa case, see what the NVC asks for.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.
State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.
A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.
