Marks out of 20, in Arabic or French
Mauritanian schools and universities grade out of 20, and a transcript (relevé de notes) lists each subject with its mark, coefficient and average. Secondary school ends with the baccalauréat after the seventh year of secondary (7AS), in series such as natural sciences, mathematics and modern letters, and the bac transcript gives the marks for each exam subject.
Schooling runs in Arabic and French, so one student's transcripts may switch language from year to year or from school to university. We translate each in its own language at the same price. See our Arabic and French pages.
University transcripts and credits
Mauritanian universities adopted the licence-master-doctorate (LMD) system from 2008-09, so recent transcripts show semesters and credits, while older ones show years. The main public university, the Université de Nouakchott Al Aasriya, was formed by a merger in 2016; a transcript issued before then carries the name of the earlier institution, and that is not a discrepancy.
We keep marks, coefficients and credits exactly as printed and do not convert them. That is the evaluator's job; see credential evaluation. Pair the transcript with the university diploma or baccalauréat.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.
State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.
A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.
Frequently asked questions
Should you convert my marks to a US GPA?
No. We translate the marks as printed; a credential evaluator converts them.
Some years are in Arabic and some in French.
Common in Mauritania. Both are translated at the same price.
My transcript names the old University of Nouakchott.
It merged into the Université de Nouakchott Al Aasriya in 2016. The name is translated as printed.
Is acceptance by universities, colleges and schools guaranteed?
Yes. Our certified translations are guaranteed to be accepted by universities, colleges and schools in the United States — and by USCIS, the NVC, courts, government agencies and employers — or your money back. The guarantee covers the translation itself, not the original document or the admission decision, and it covers credential evaluation agencies such as WES and ECE as well. Full terms are in our refund policy.
