The attestat and its supplement
A Russian student who completes grade 11 receives the аттестат о среднем общем образовании (before 2014 titled аттестат о среднем (полном) общем образовании) with a supplement (приложение к аттестату) that lists every subject and its final mark. An аттестат с отличием marks graduation with distinction. Grade 9 ends with a different certificate, the аттестат об основном общем образовании, which certifies basic general education and is not a high school completion document; the translation keeps the two clearly apart.
Marks are on the five-point scale — 5 excellent, 4 good, 3 satisfactory — often written out as words. They are translated with the scale and never converted: a column of 3s is a record of passes. The Russian transcript page explains the scale in more detail.
EGE results are no longer a paper certificate
The Unified State Exam (ЕГЭ, EGE) is scored out of 100 per subject and decides university admission. Paper certificates of EGE results stopped being issued in 2014; results are kept in the federal information system, and a graduate gets a printed statement through the school, the regional authorities or the Gosuslugi portal. If a US school wants the scores, that statement is translated as a statement of results, not as a certificate.
In the US the attestat and supplement are read together for school enrollment, community college admission and evaluation by WES or ECE (see credential evaluation). The name follows your passport, and the patronymic stays a patronymic rather than becoming a middle name. See the Russian birth certificate page and our Russian page.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.
State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.
A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.
Frequently asked questions
Where is my EGE certificate?
Since 2014 there is none on paper: results are held electronically. A printed statement of your scores can be translated if a school asks for it.
Is my grade 9 attestat a high school diploma?
No. It certifies basic general education. Completion of secondary school is the grade 11 attestat.
My attestat is from the Soviet period.
Common. We translate it as issued, with the name of the state and school printed on it.
