Often available in English already
Korean high school documents can often be issued in English. Government24 (정부24) lists English versions of the graduation certificate (졸업증명서) and of the middle and high school transcript (성적증명서), and schools and education offices issue them as well. An English document issued by the school or the government needs no translation, so if you can still request one, check that first.
When what you have is in Korean, or the office wants the school life record (학교생활기록부), it is translated in full. The school life record is long: attendance, awards, subject grades by semester, volunteer hours and teachers' narrative comments, and the narrative sections hold most of its words. Every table keeps its headings and layout so a registrar can read across.
Achievement levels and rank grades
Korean high school grades combine an achievement level (A to E), the raw score, the subject average and standard deviation, and in many subjects a rank grade (석차등급) in which 1 is the top band. A reader who assumes a higher number is better gets it backwards, so each column is translated with its heading. Students who entered high school in 2025 or later are graded with five rank bands instead of the earlier nine; whichever is printed is what the translation shows, never a conversion — see credential evaluation.
Other common documents are the high school equivalency exam pass certificate (검정고시 합격증명서) and the CSAT (수능) score report. Names follow your passport romanization. See the Korean transcript and birth certificate pages, school enrollment and our Korean page.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.
State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.
A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.
Frequently asked questions
My school gave me an English graduation certificate.
Then that document usually needs no translation. Ask the receiving office whether it wants anything else.
Is a 1등급 a low grade?
No. In Korean rank grades 1 is the top band. The translation keeps the heading so it is read correctly.
I passed the 검정고시 instead of graduating.
We translate the pass certificate as the Korean equivalency credential it is; how it is treated is up to the receiving office.
