The lise diploması and the grade record
Turkish secondary school (lise, grades 9 to 12) ends with the lise diploması, issued by the school under the Ministry of National Education (MEB). The school's name usually shows its type — an Anatolian high school, a vocational and technical Anatolian high school, an imam hatip school — and distance learners graduate from the open high school (Açık Öğretim Lisesi). The diploma states the overall result; the subject-by-subject grades are on a separate record, either from the school or printed from the e-Okul system, covering each year.
Recent records grade from 0 to 100, and older ones may use a 1-to-5 scale; whichever is printed is the one translated, with no conversion. Honor certificates (takdir belgesi, teşekkür belgesi) are separate documents. A document printed from e-Devlet carries a barcode and verification code, which the translation reproduces so the receiving office can check the original.
Separate from the university exam
University admission in Turkey runs through the YKS exam administered by ÖSYM, and its result document is separate from the diploma; it is translated only if a US school asks for it. For school enrollment, community college admission and evaluation by WES or ECE, the core is the diploma plus the grade record. See credential evaluation and school enrollment.
Turkish letters — ç, ğ, ı, İ, ö, ş, ü — are kept in names, which follow your passport; the dotted and dotless i are different letters and are not interchanged. See the Turkish transcript and birth certificate pages and our Turkish page.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.
State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.
A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.
Frequently asked questions
Is an e-Okul printout enough as a transcript?
Some offices accept it as the grade record; ask the one receiving it. We translate it in full, codes included.
Do I need my YKS results?
Only if the school asks. They are a separate document from the diploma.
My diploma is from Açık Öğretim Lisesi.
It is translated like any other diploma. Offices often also want the list of courses you completed.
