The diploma, the temporary certificate and the học bạ

Vietnamese upper secondary school (grades 10 to 12) ends with the national high school graduation exam (kỳ thi tốt nghiệp THPT). Graduates receive the bằng tốt nghiệp trung học phổ thông (upper secondary graduation diploma); until it is printed they hold a temporary graduation certificate (giấy chứng nhận tốt nghiệp tạm thời), valid for up to a year. The exam itself has a separate score certificate (giấy chứng nhận kết quả thi). Each is a different document and is translated under its own name.

The grades are in the học bạ, the school record book, which gives each subject's semester and year averages on a 0-to-10 scale with teachers' comments. Older books rate conduct (hạnh kiểm) and academic standing (học lực: giỏi, khá, trung bình, yếu, kém); under Circular 22/2021, applied to all grades from 2024–2025, they rate training results (kết quả rèn luyện) and learning results (kết quả học tập) as Tốt, Khá, Đạt or Chưa đạt. Every rating is translated with its meaning, not converted.

What to send

A US high school placing a student, a community college or an evaluator such as WES or ECE usually wants the diploma and the complete học bạ — every page, with the principal's signature and seal on each year. An 8.0 out of 10 is a good Vietnamese mark, not an 80% B-minus, which is why grades stay as printed; see credential evaluation and school enrollment.

Vietnamese diacritics change meaning, so names keep them, in the order and spelling of your passport. See the Vietnamese transcript and birth certificate pages, the general high school diploma page and our Vietnamese page.

What USCIS requires

Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.

State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.

A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.

Frequently asked questions

I only have the temporary graduation certificate.

It is translated as a temporary certificate, which is what it is. Whether the receiving office accepts it before the diploma is issued is its decision.

Do I need the whole học bạ?

Usually yes. Schools and evaluators read all three years, and the comments and seals are part of the record.

Will you convert my averages to a GPA?

No. They stay on the 0-10 scale as printed.

Ready to get started?

Upload your documents and receive your certified translation, typically within 24 hours.
