Bachiller certificate, Pruebas Nacionales, and the récord de notas

Dominican secondary education (Nivel Secundario) is six years in two cycles: a general first cycle, and a second cycle in one of three modalities — academic, technical-professional or arts. It ends with the certificado de Bachiller, which carries the dry seal and signature of the Pruebas Nacionales, the national exams. The marks are on a separate récord de notas, signed and sealed by the school and the education district.

Current records mark out of 100 with 70 the pass; older ones may pass at 60. The modality on the certificate (académica, técnico-profesional, artes) is translated with the title, and the marks are reproduced exactly as printed; conversion is for a credential evaluator.

MINERD legalization, apostille, and US uses

For use abroad, the Ministry of Education (MINERD) legalizes the récord de notas, and the foreign ministry (MIREX) can then add an apostille; the Dominican Republic has been a party to the Apostille Convention since 2009. Each seal, signature and reference number from those steps is part of the document and is translated.

In the US the certificate and récord are used to place students in school (see school enrollment translations), for community college and adult education admission, by employers, and for evaluation before university — see the Dominican transcript page. Names follow the passport and the birth certificate. See our Spanish page.

What USCIS requires

Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.

State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.

A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the récord de notas as well as the certificate?

Usually. The certificate proves you finished; the récord shows subjects and marks, which evaluators and colleges read.

My certificate has a Pruebas Nacionales seal.

That seal is part of what makes the certificate valid, and it is translated with the rest.

Will you convert my marks out of 100?

No. They are translated as printed; a credential evaluator converts them if the institution asks.
