Ciclo común, then a two- or three-year bachillerato
In Honduras, grades 7 to 9 form the ciclo común of basic education. Educación media follows, with two main routes: a two-year academic bachillerato in sciences and humanities, the usual route to university, or a three-year Bachillerato Técnico Profesional in a trade or specialty. The title names the route, and the Spanish name stays beside the English so nobody reads "bachillerato" as a US bachelor's degree.
Honduran marks are out of 100, and the pass moved: until 2013 it was 60; from 2014 it is 70, with bands running Insuficiente (0-35), Necesita mejorar, Satisfactorio (70-80), Muy satisfactorio and Avanzado (91-100). A record that spans the change can show the same mark as a pass one year and a fail the next. The band names and the scale printed on each certificate are translated as they are; nothing is converted, which is the credential evaluator's work.
The certificate of grades, and the stamps on it
Next to the title, most offices want the certificate of grades listing each subject year by year. Both are signed at the school and often carry authentication stamps from the education authorities; Honduras has been a party to the Apostille Convention since 2004, so an apostille may follow. Every stamp and signature block is translated, front and back.
Uses in the US: school placement for teenagers (see school enrollment translations), community college and adult education admission, employers, and evaluation for university study — see the Honduran transcript page. Names follow the passport and the birth certificate. See our Spanish page.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.
State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.
A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.
Frequently asked questions
My certificate says "Satisfactorio" next to the number.
That is the performance band used since 2014. We translate both the number and the band, as printed.
Why is 65 a pass on my old certificate and a fail on my new one?
The pass mark rose from 60 to 70 in 2014. The translation reproduces each certificate's own marks; an evaluator interprets them.
