Certificates, extracts, and Soviet records in Russian
A Ukrainian birth, marriage or divorce is recorded by the state civil registry (DRACS), which issues the certificate (свідоцтво) and, on request, an extract from the State Register (витяг) carrying details the certificate leaves out — earlier names, corrections, the basis for the record. Offices sometimes ask for the extract precisely because of that, and it is translated as the separate document it is.
Records made before 1991 are usually in Russian or on bilingual Russian-Ukrainian forms, and many people have both a Soviet original and a Ukrainian reissue. We translate either or both. See the Ukrainian birth certificate, marriage certificate and police record pages.
Olha or Olga: Ukrainian and Russian spellings of one name
Ukraine has an official transliteration, adopted in 2010 and used in its passports, which gives Olha, Andrii, Serhii and Kharkiv. Older documents, and anything that went through Russian, give Olga, Andrei, Sergei and Kharkov. The same person ends up with two spellings in one file.
We follow the spelling in your current passport, or the one you choose when you order, for every document; where an older record spells the name the Russian way, the translation renders what is written and makes the match visible rather than quietly "correcting" it.
Diplomas and supplements
A Ukrainian degree (диплом бакалавра, магістра, or the older спеціаліста) comes with a supplement listing every course, credit and grade, on a 100-point national scale alongside the ECTS letter. The supplement is what an evaluator or a university reads, so it is translated in full, and grades are translated as printed, not converted.
Documents from Ukraine
Each of these pages describes the document as Ukraine issues it — the authority, the format, the annotations and what offices in the United States ask for: Birth Certificate · Marriage Certificate · Divorce Decree · Police Record · Academic Transcript · High School Diploma · University Diploma · Articles of Incorporation · Bank Statement · Death Certificate · Disability Certificate · Driver's license · Expert Report · Lease Agreement · Legal Separation · Medical Records · Name Change · ID Card · Passport · Paternity Acknowledgment · Power of Attorney · Property Deed · Vehicle Title.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.
A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.
Frequently asked questions
Is a certified Ukrainian translation accepted by USCIS?
Yes. USCIS asks for a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate (8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)); every translation carries that signed certification, and acceptance is guaranteed or your money back.
My birth certificate is Soviet and in Russian.
That is normal for anyone born before 1991. We translate Russian and bilingual forms at the same price.
Do I need the certificate or the extract (витяг)?
They are different documents; some offices ask for the extract because it shows changes the certificate does not. Check with the office, and send whichever you were asked for.
Which spelling of my name will you use?
The one in your current passport, unless you tell us otherwise when you order. It is used consistently across every document.
How much does Ukrainian to English translation cost?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, the same as every other language, with the signed certification, the translation of every stamp and seal, and formatting included. Most certificates are one or two pages and come back within 24 hours.
