Notarisation, and the three-year line
A Ukrainian residential lease for three years or more must be notarised and registered, and one below that need not be — so a great many leases are written for a shorter term for that reason.

A lease supports registration of residence, which Ukrainians need for services and which is recorded in the state register, and a landlord's consent is part of it.
