The same language in two alphabets
Uzbek has been written in Cyrillic and in Latin script, and the switch between them has been gradual and is still not complete. A family file can hold a Soviet-era certificate in Cyrillic, a 2000s document in early Latin orthography and a recent one in the current spelling — all Uzbek, all genuine, none of them matching the others letter for letter.

Uzbek and Soviet-era records
Records from before 1991 come from the Soviet registry and are usually in Russian, and surnames from that period carry Russian endings in -ov, -ova, -ev and -eva that later documents may drop. Frequently asked questions
My documents use two different alphabets.
