Bin and binti are not middle names

In Malay naming, bin means "son of" and binti "daughter of", so Ahmad bin Ismail is Ahmad, son of Ismail. The part after bin or binti is the father's given name, not an inherited family surname — the father's own name is formed the same way from the grandfather's.

US forms treat the last element as a surname, which means a brother and sister share it but their father does not, and a married woman keeps hers. We translate the name as written, identify what bin and binti mean, and leave the structure visible instead of flattening it into something that will later look like a contradiction.

Malaysian, Bruneian and Singaporean records

Malaysian civil records are the sijil kelahiran and its marriage and death equivalents, issued by the National Registration Department, alongside the MyKad identity card. Brunei and parts of Singapore issue Malay-language documents in their own formats.

Malaysian documents are frequently bilingual Malay and English, with the headings printed in both and the entries in Malay. The entries are the part that needs translating, and a partly English form is not a translated document to the office receiving it. We also translate diplomas and transcripts and police certificates.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.

A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.

Frequently asked questions

Is the name after "bin" my surname?

It is your father's given name, not an inherited surname. We translate it as written and explain the structure so it is not misread as a family name.

My certificate already has English headings.

The headings are printed; the entries are not. Everything in Malay still needs translating.

Do you translate documents from Brunei or Singapore?

Yes. Tell us the issuing country, since the formats differ from Malaysian ones.
