Cyrillic and Latin, from the same office
Serbian is written in both Cyrillic and Latin, and the same municipal registry will issue a certificate in either. A family routinely ends up with one document in each, which is normal and not a discrepancy. Both are translated the same way.
Civil records are extracts from the registers of births, marriages and deaths (izvod iz matične knjige), and are often issued on international multilingual forms whose printed headings are in several languages while the entries stay in Serbian.
Records from the former Yugoslavia
Someone born before 1991 in what is now another republic usually has to obtain the record from that country's registry today, so a single family file can contain documents from Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia and Montenegro at once. They are closely related languages and we translate all of them.
The JMBG, the thirteen-digit personal number, is reproduced exactly as printed, and diacritics č, ć, š, ž and đ are kept: ć and č are different letters, not decoration.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.
A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at $0.10 per word.
Frequently asked questions
My documents are in Cyrillic and my passport is in Latin letters.
That is normal. We translate the Cyrillic and match the Latin spelling on your passport.
Do you translate documents from Bosnia, Croatia or Montenegro?
Yes. Documents from across the former Yugoslavia are translated the same way.
Does a multilingual international extract still need translating?
Yes. Only the printed headings are multilingual; the names, places and annotations are not.
