Brazil and Portugal are not the same paperwork
Both countries speak Portuguese and neither issues the other’s documents. Brazilian civil records come from a cartório de registro civil, a private notarial office; Portuguese ones come from a conservatória do registo civil, a state registry. The vocabulary differs, the layouts differ, and since the 1990 orthographic agreement even the spelling of some words differs between editions of the same form.
We also translate Portuguese-language documents from Angola, Mozambique and Cabo Verde, which follow their own formats again.
Certidão or inteiro teor — they are not interchangeable
A Brazilian certidão is a summary drawn from the register. An inteiro teor reproduces the register entry in full, including everything later added to it. Institutions ask for one or the other and rarely explain the difference, and a summary filed where a full copy was required comes straight back.

Averbações are where the real information is
An averbação is an annotation added to a register entry after the fact: a divorce, a name change, a recognition of paternity, a court-ordered correction. On a marriage record the averbação recording the divorce is frequently the only proof that the marriage ended.
A certidão printed today includes the annotations existing at the moment it was issued — an old certificate in a drawer does not. If your document is more than a few months old and anything has changed since, order a fresh one before translating it. We translate every annotation on whatever you send.

A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.

What is the difference between a certidão and an inteiro teor?
A certidão summarizes the register entry; an inteiro teor reproduces it in full, annotations included. Check which one you were asked for, because they are not interchangeable.
Do you translate documents from Portugal as well as Brazil?

My certificate is a few years old. Is that a problem?
