Judicial divorce and divorce at the cartório
Brazil permits divorce by public deed at a cartório de notas where the couple agrees and there are no minor children, producing an escritura pública de divórcio rather than a judgment. Contested divorces produce a court sentença with a certificate that it became final (certidão de trânsito em julgado), and that certificate is frequently what an office actually needs.

The judgment and the annotation are two different documents
This is the distinction that decides whether a file moves. A divorce produces a court judgment or administrative resolution — the reasoning, the orders, the date it became final — and it produces an annotation on the original marriage record, which is what makes the marriage show as dissolved when anyone looks it up.
Offices ask for one, the other, or both, and they are not substitutes. If you were asked to prove a prior marriage ended, a freshly issued marriage certificate carrying the annotation is often what answers it; if you were asked for the terms of the divorce, only the judgment has them. Ask which before ordering — translating the wrong one costs the same as translating the right one.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need the judgment or the marriage certificate with the annotation?
Ask the office receiving it. The annotation proves the marriage ended; only the judgment carries the terms. They are not interchangeable and some filings want both.
Is the date it became final translated?
Yes, and it is usually the date that matters. A judgment and the date it became enforceable can be different days, and both are reproduced as the document gives them.
