CRV and CRLV, which are different documents
Brazil issues the CRV — Certificado de Registro de Veículo, the ownership document, with a transfer form on the reverse — and the CRLV, the annual licensing certificate carried in the vehicle.
Only the CRV transfers ownership. The CRLV proves the licence is current for the year. Clients send the CRLV as their title, and we name which you have.
The RENAVAM, and the state DETRAN
Every Brazilian vehicle has a RENAVAM number, eleven digits, which follows it for life and is the national key, while registration itself is handled by the DETRAN of the state.
Moving between states requires a transfer, and a vehicle's history sits with the states it has been registered in. We reproduce the RENAVAM and the issuing state.
The recognised signature, and the digital shift
A Brazilian transfer requires the seller's signature on the CRV to be recognised at a cartório, and since 2021 the paper CRV has been replaced in most states by the digital CRV-e with a QR code and an electronic transfer through the DETRAN app.

Liens, and the identifiers
Financing is recorded as alienação fiduciária or gravame on the record, and a vehicle with an active gravame cannot be transferred until it is released.
Parties are identified by CPF or CNPJ, and the document states the chassis, the engine number and the FIPE category. See our Portuguese page.
