A real title, and a real registry
Argentina is unusual in the region: it issues a genuine Título del Automotor and runs a constitutive national registry, the Registro Nacional de la Propiedad del Automotor, where ownership passes on inscription.
That is much closer to a US title system than most of Latin America. The title carries the dominio (plate), the chassis and engine numbers and the registry seccional.
Cédula verde and cédula azul
The cédula verde identifies the owner and authorises them to drive it; the cédula azul authorises a named non-owner to drive it.
Neither is the title. A US reader shown a cédula may take it for one, and we name the document for what it is.
Form 08, and the certified signature
A transfer is made on Formulario 08 with signatures certified by a notary, a bank or the registry itself, and the buyer files it at the seccional.
A signed 08 that was never filed leaves the seller as the registered owner and liable for the vehicle — a well-known Argentine problem. We translate the form and its certification.
Prenda, and the identifiers
Financing is registered as a prenda on the title, and a vehicle with an unreleased prenda cannot be transferred.
