Kyrgyzstan writes its documents in two languages

Kyrgyz is the state language of Kyrgyzstan and Russian is its official language, so most Kyrgyz civil documents are bilingual forms: birth and marriage certificates, ID cards and diplomas print each field in Kyrgyz and in Russian. Certificates from before 1991 are usually Soviet forms in Russian only. We translate both halves of a bilingual form, and say where the two disagree rather than picking one.

Kyrgyz is written in Cyrillic with three letters Russian does not have — ң, ө and ү. A translator who reads only Russian will either skip them or transliterate them as the nearest Russian letter, which changes the spelling of names and places. There are also Kyrgyz communities in Tajikistan, China (Kizilsu) and Afghanistan, whose documents come in the language of those countries.

Uulu and kyzy: a surname that is not a surname

Soviet records gave Kyrgyz families Russian-style surnames (Asanbekov, Asanbekova). Since independence many people have taken the traditional form instead: the father's name followed by uulu ("son of") or kyzy ("daughter of") — Asanbek uulu Nurlan. A father and his son can then appear with different surnames on documents that are both correct.

Kyrgyz IDs and passports carry a 14-digit personal identification number (PIN) whose first digit gives the holder's sex and whose next eight give the date of birth. We reproduce it exactly, because an officer comparing documents will use it to tie them to the same person.

Documents people bring from Kyrgyzstan

Birth, marriage and divorce certificates from the civil registry, ID cards and passports, school certificates (attestat) and university diplomas with their transcript supplement, police clearance certificates, and the employment record book (trudovaya knizhka) that still documents a working life. Kyrgyzstan is a party to the Apostille Convention, so a document going to a US court or state agency can be apostilled there before it is translated.

Russian-only Soviet documents are translated just as well; see our Russian page.

Documents from Kyrgyzstan

Each of these pages describes the document as Kyrgyzstan issues it — the authority, the format, the annotations and what offices in the United States ask for: Birth Certificate · Marriage Certificate · Divorce Certificate · Criminal Record Certificate · Academic Transcript · High School Diploma · University Diploma · Articles of Incorporation · Bank Statement · Death Certificate · Disability Certificate · Driver's License · Expert Report · Lease Agreement · Legal Separation · Medical Records · Name Change Document · Identity Card · Passport · Paternity Acknowledgment · Power of Attorney · Property Deed · Vehicle Title.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.

A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.

Frequently asked questions

Is a certified Kyrgyz translation accepted by USCIS?

Yes. USCIS asks for a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate (8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)); every translation carries that signed certification, and acceptance is guaranteed or your money back.

My certificate is half Kyrgyz and half Russian.

That is the normal Kyrgyz form. We translate both halves and point out any field where they differ.

My father is Asanbekov and I am Asanbek uulu. Is that a problem?

No, it is common since independence. The translation reproduces each name exactly as printed; we can add a translator's note explaining uulu and kyzy if your case needs it.

Can you translate my old Soviet documents too?

Yes. Documents issued before 1991 are usually in Russian only, and we translate them in the same order.

How much does Kyrgyz to English translation cost?

$24.95 per page with no word cap, the same as every other language, with the signed certification, the translation of every stamp and seal, and formatting included. Most certificates are one or two pages.
