Kazakh and Russian on the same form, and an alphabet in transition

Kazakh is the state language of Kazakhstan; Russian is used officially alongside it, and civil certificates, ID cards and diplomas are printed in both. Soviet certificates issued before 1991 are usually in Russian only. We translate every half of a bilingual document.

Kazakh is written in Cyrillic with nine letters Russian lacks (ә, ғ, қ, ң, ө, ұ, ү, һ, і), and the country is moving to a Latin alphabet adopted in 2017 and revised in 2021, so recent documents and signs can spell the same name two ways. Kazakhs from China (Xinjiang) and Mongolia (Bayan-Ölgii) bring documents in those countries' languages, sometimes with Kazakh in the Arabic script.

The IIN, and certificates issued online

Every document issued in Kazakhstan carries the holder's 12-digit individual identification number (IIN, ЖСН/ИИН). Its first six digits are the date of birth (year, month, day) and the seventh gives the century and sex, so a typo is easy to spot — and easy to make. We copy it digit by digit.

Many certificates are now issued as electronic documents through the eGov portal and carry a QR code instead of a wet seal. They are valid documents and we translate them the same way, including the verification code. See our Kazakh birth certificate page.

Names: the patronymic, and surnames changing ending

Kazakh names follow the Soviet pattern of given name, patronymic and surname (Nurlanuly or Nurlanovich), and the trend since independence is toward Kazakh endings: -uly ("son of") and -kyzy ("daughter of") instead of -ovich and -ovna, and surnames without -ov. One family's documents can show both. We follow the passport spelling and translate each document as it stands.

Kazakhstan is a party to the Apostille Convention, so a document that needs authentication for a US court or state agency can be apostilled before translation. USCIS does not require it.

Documents from Kazakhstan

Each of these pages describes the document as Kazakhstan issues it — the authority, the format, the annotations and what offices in the United States ask for: Birth Certificate · Marriage Certificate · Divorce Certificate · Criminal Record Certificate · Academic Transcript · High School Diploma · University Diploma · Articles of Incorporation · Bank Statement · Death Certificate · Disability Certificate · Driver's License · Expert Report · Lease Agreement · Legal Separation · Medical Records · Name Change Document · Identity Card · Passport · Paternity Acknowledgment · Power of Attorney · Property Deed · Vehicle Title.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.

A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.

Frequently asked questions

Is a certified Kazakh translation accepted by USCIS?

Yes. USCIS asks for a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate (8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)); every translation carries that signed certification, and acceptance is guaranteed or your money back.

My certificate came from eGov and has no stamp.

Electronic certificates with a QR code are valid Kazakh documents. We translate them, including the verification details.

My documents spell my name differently.

Common: Cyrillic, the new Latin alphabet and older Russian forms all coexist. We follow your passport and keep the spelling consistent across the file.

Do you translate Kazakh documents from China or Mongolia?

Yes. Tell us the issuing country when you order; documents from China are usually in Chinese and Kazakh, those from Mongolia in Mongolian.

How much does Kazakh to English translation cost?

$24.95 per page with no word cap, the same as every other language, with the signed certification, the translation of every stamp and seal, and formatting included. Most certificates are one or two pages.
