Latin since 1991, Cyrillic before

Azerbaijani documents from the Republic of Azerbaijan are in a Latin alphabet close to Turkish, with its own letters — ə, x and q sound different from their Turkish counterparts. The country switched from Cyrillic in 1991 and finished the change in 2001, so older certificates are in Cyrillic Azerbaijani or in Russian.

A Turkish translator can follow much of an Azerbaijani document and still get its administrative terms and some common words wrong; the two are related languages, not the same one. Azerbaijanis in Iran, who outnumber those in Azerbaijan, write in the Arabic script, but Iranian official documents are in Persian.

oğlu and qızı

Azerbaijani documents give the patronymic with oğlu ("son of") or qızı ("daughter of") after the father's name: Məmmədov Rəşad Əli oğlu. Soviet documents gave the Russian form, Alievich. Surnames may end in -ov/-ova, -li or -zadə, and some families changed theirs after independence.

US forms have no field for a patronymic. The translation reproduces every element in its original order, so it can be entered correctly; how it goes on a form is your or your attorney's decision.

Documents from Azerbaijan

Birth, marriage and divorce certificates from the civil registry of the Ministry of Justice (often obtained through an ASAN service centre), ID cards and passports, school certificates (attestat) and diplomas with their transcript, and police clearance certificates. Azerbaijan is a party to the Apostille Convention.

Documents in Russian from before 1991 are covered by our Russian page; Azerbaijani documents from Iran by our Persian page.

Documents from Azerbaijan

Each of these pages describes the document as Azerbaijan issues it — the authority, the format, the annotations and what offices in the United States ask for: Birth Certificate · Marriage Certificate · Divorce Certificate · Criminal Record Certificate · Academic Transcript · High School Diploma · University Diploma · Articles of Incorporation · Bank Statement · Death Certificate · Disability Certificate · Driver's License · Expert Report · Lease Agreement · Legal Separation · Medical Records · Name Change Document · Identity Card · Passport · Paternity Acknowledgment · Power of Attorney · Property Deed · Vehicle Title.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.

A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.

Frequently asked questions

Is a certified Azerbaijani translation accepted by USCIS?

Yes. USCIS asks for a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate (8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)); every translation carries that signed certification, and acceptance is guaranteed or your money back.

Can a Turkish translator translate my Azerbaijani documents?

Not reliably. The languages are close, but the letters ə, x and q, common vocabulary and the administrative terms differ.

Where does "oğlu" go?

It is part of the patronymic. The translation keeps it with your father's name, in the original order.

My old certificate is in Cyrillic.

Normal before 1991–2001. We translate Cyrillic Azerbaijani and Russian documents too.

How much does Azerbaijani to English translation cost?

$24.95 per page with no word cap, the same as every other language, with the signed certification, the translation of every stamp and seal, and formatting included. Most certificates are one or two pages.
