Issued by the Prosecutor General's statistics committee

A Kazakh criminal record certificate (справка о наличии либо отсутствии судимости) is issued not by the police but by the Committee on Legal Statistics and Special Accounts of the Prosecutor General's Office. It is free and is ordered online through egov.kz or eGov Mobile; most are ready in minutes, while those needing an additional check take up to five working days. A third party can request it only with the holder's consent.

The certificate is an electronic document with a QR code rather than a wet stamp, and it is valid as such. For an immigrant visa, check the State Department's reciprocity page for Kazakhstan for what the consulate expects, and see what the NVC asks for.

What the certificate does and does not show

According to the committee, certificates in the current format no longer list convictions that have been expunged under Article 79 of the Criminal Code. That is a rule of Kazakh law; US forms ask their own questions, so ask your attorney what to disclose. We translate the certificate exactly as issued, including its search date and the name and IIN it was searched under.

If you need an apostille for a court or state agency, the HCCH list names the General Prosecutor's Office as the competent authority for documents from the prosecution service. USCIS does not require one. See our Kazakh page and our Russian page.

What USCIS requires

Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.

State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.

A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.

Frequently asked questions

My certificate is a PDF with a QR code and no stamp.

That is the normal format. We translate it in full, including the verification code.

An old conviction does not appear on it.

The current format omits expunged convictions. We translate what is printed; ask your attorney about disclosure.

Can I order it from the US?

It is ordered through egov.kz or eGov Mobile, which needs Kazakh login credentials. Otherwise ask a Kazakh consulate.
