The card that replaced the Soviet internal passport
Citizens living in Kazakhstan must hold an identity card (удостоверение личности) from the age of 16. It is issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs migration service through Public Service Centres, can now be replaced online via egov.kz, and is valid for 10 years. A redesigned card with an electronic chip was introduced from 1 June 2024, so older and newer designs both circulate.
The card is the document Kazakhs use at home; the passport is for travel. A US bank, DMV or employer may ask for the card as a second identity document. Send both sides: the back carries data that the front does not.
The IIN and the name lines
The card shows the 12-digit individual identification number (IIN). Its first six digits are the date of birth as year, month and day, and the seventh gives the century and sex, so the number can be checked against the birth date printed beside it. We copy it digit by digit and flag any mismatch rather than correct it.
Names are given as surname, given name and patronymic. The patronymic is a legal part of the name and is translated, not dropped. See our Kazakh page and our Russian page.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.
State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.
A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.
Frequently asked questions
Do you need both sides of the card?
Yes. Each side carries different data, and both are translated.
My card has a chip and looks different from my old one.
A new design was introduced in June 2024. Both designs are translated the same way.
The IIN does not seem to match my birth date.
We translate it exactly as printed and add a note. Only the issuing authority can correct it.
