Registry divorce or court divorce
Under the Code on Marriage and Family, a couple who both agree, have no common minor children and make no property claims against each other can divorce at the civil registry, including by application on egov.kz. Every other divorce goes through a court. The registry records the divorce and issues the divorce certificate (свидетельство о расторжении брака), with the registry entry number and date.
A court divorce therefore leaves two documents: the court decision (решение суда) and the registry certificate. The certificate proves the marriage ended; the decision sets out custody, child support and property. Translate the one the receiving office asks for, and both if you are unsure. Note that a husband cannot obtain a divorce without his wife's consent during her pregnancy or in the child's first year.
Dates, names and older certificates
A certificate based on a court decision names the court and the date of the decision as well as the registration date. Both dates are translated as printed so an officer can see which is which. Where a spouse returned to a premarital surname, the certificate shows it, often in a different form from the married one.
Divorces registered before 1991 appear on Soviet forms in Russian and remain valid. See the Kazakh marriage certificate page, our Kazakh page and our Russian page.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.
State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.
A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.
Frequently asked questions
We divorced at the registry office, without a court.
Ordinary in Kazakhstan for couples with no minor children and no disputes. The certificate is the whole record and we translate it.
Do I need the court decision or the certificate?
It depends on the office. The certificate proves the divorce; the decision gives its terms. If unsure, translate both.
My certificate shows two different dates.
Usually the court decision date and the registration date. We translate both exactly.
