The medical certificate and the registry certificate

A death in Kyrgyzstan produces two documents. The medical certificate of death comes from the hospital or doctor and states the cause. The civil registry then registers the death and issues the death certificate, a bilingual Kyrgyz and Russian form. The registry certificate proves the death; the medical one explains it. An estate, an insurer or a US court may want either, so ask which.

Death certificates have also been issued digitally through Tunduk since December 2025, but that version has legal force only inside Kyrgyzstan; the paper form is the one meant for use abroad. See our Kyrgyz page.

Older deaths, and names that do not match

Deaths registered before 1991 appear on Soviet forms in Russian, and the deceased's name is in its Russian form — Asanbekov rather than Asanbek uulu — even when the children's later documents use the Kyrgyz form. See our Russian page.

In a US file a death certificate usually proves something in someone else's case: a widow's petition, a parent's death in a child's file, an inheritance. We reproduce names exactly so they can be matched to the birth certificate or marriage certificate that links the two people.

What USCIS requires

Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.

State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.

A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.

Frequently asked questions

Which death document do I need?

The registry death certificate is the default proof of death. If the office needs the cause, it may also want the medical certificate. We translate either.

My father's surname on his death certificate differs from mine.

Common in Kyrgyz families: a father registered as Asanbekov can have a son registered as Asanbek uulu. We translate each name as printed and can add a note explaining the link.

Can a relative in Kyrgyzstan get the certificate for me?

Who may request a certificate is set by the registry, so ask there or at a Kyrgyz consulate. We translate a clear scan of whatever is issued.
