Seattle Central College: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
Seattle Central asks for academic records in translation only from applicants who will be 16 or 17 when classes start, and for translated bank documents and family certificates from every F-1 applicant; foreign college credit needs a translated copy of the transcript plus an agency evaluation. Its pages ask for English or officially translated documents and do not say who must translate them. Seattle Central College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary; the course-by-course evaluation it requires for credit comes from an evaluation agency, which we are not.
Under 18 only
Adult F-1 applicants send no academic records; 16- and 17-year-olds send translated transcripts.
Bank papers too
Financial documents must be in English or officially translated.
Nine agencies
Credit from abroad needs a course-by-course report; the registrar recommends nine agencies.
Seattle Central requirements at a glance
| What Seattle Central asks for | |
|---|---|
| Who applies where | F-1 applicants apply through Seattle Colleges International Programs, which serves Seattle Central, North and South; transfer credit is decided by Seattle Central's own Registration office (transferring credits). |
| Academic records at admission | Only from applicants who will be 16 or 17 when classes start: original and English-translated transcripts, or a copy of the diploma (source). |
| Financial documents | Bank statements, letters and other financial papers in English or officially translated; scans are normally accepted, screenshots are not (proof of finances). |
| Spouse or children | Original and translated copies of the marriage or birth certificate, with the dependent's passport (source). |
| Credit from abroad | Untranslated original, a copy translated into English, and a sealed course-by-course evaluation from an independent agency (Registration). |
| Who may translate | Not stated on any of these pages. |
| Timing for credit | Usually 7 to 9 weeks after the request on the registrar page; the request form says 3 to 4 months (form R-199). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. Seattle Colleges International Programs asks for original and English-translated copies of transcripts and certificates without naming a translator type (admission requirements), and Seattle Central's Registration office asks for a copy of the transcript translated into English (incoming transcript evaluation). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. Policy checked on October 13, 2026. |

Under 18: the only applicants who send transcripts
Seattle Central admits adult F-1 students without asking for school records: the admission requirements list the application, proof of finances, passport and English level. Applicants who will still be 16 or 17 on the first day of class are the exception. They must send original and English-translated transcripts showing at least 9th grade, or a copy of a diploma from the country list of credentials treated as equal to a US high school diploma (the Brazilian Ensino Médio, the Colombian Bachiller, the German Abitur, the Indian HSC, among others).
Which years to send depends on where the student is: only 9th grade if that is all that is finished, every year from 10th grade on once the first semester of 10th is done (underage transcripts). The grades must show a B average or a place in the top 20% of the class; an applicant below that can be reconsidered at 18 or after graduating. Because the decision turns on the average, the translation keeps every mark exactly as issued, with the school's own scale.
Bank statements and family certificates
For most adult applicants the documents that need a translation are not academic. International Programs wants bank statements, bank letters and sponsor documents in English or "officially translated into English" (proof of finances guide), and scans are normally enough. An applicant bringing a spouse or children uploads the dependent's passport plus original and translated copies of the marriage or birth certificate, and shows US$3,000 more per dependent (source).
International Admissions may later ask for originals of financial documents or transcripts to check their authenticity (admission resources). Keep the originals that match your translations.
Credit for study abroad: three documents and an agency
International Programs gives a free preliminary credit review only for US transcripts; transcripts from outside the US are not eligible, and an official evaluation is not needed for admission (transferring credits). To use foreign credit, Seattle Central's Registration office wants the official untranslated transcript, a copy translated into English and a sealed course-by-course evaluation from an independent agency, delivered to Admissions in BE1104 or by mail, with the R-199 request form (source). It recommends nine agencies, including ECE, FIS, Josef Silny, Scholaro and WES, and accepts a photocopy of the original only if one of those agencies sends it.
International Programs advises requesting the evaluation as soon as the visa is granted, since it can take a quarter. The registrar also warns that credit Seattle Central accepts may not be recognized by other US colleges, and that not all of them use evaluation or translation agencies, so check the rules of the university you plan to transfer to.
Where Seattle Central's pages differ
The registrar page says the agency route for foreign credit takes 7 to 9 weeks, while the R-199 form says to allow 3 to 4 months. The English placement page tells F-1 students to contact International Programs about transfer credit evaluations, and International Programs has its own Seattle Central evaluation request form that promises an emailed evaluation within 4 weeks, without saying whether it covers transcripts from outside the US. We have not resolved this; if you are an F-1 student with foreign credit, ask International Programs which route applies before you order an evaluation.
Documents applicants usually translate
- High school transcripts from 9th or 10th grade on (applicants under 18)
- High school diploma or final certificate
- Bank statements, bank letters and sponsor letters
- Marriage certificate or children's birth certificates, for F-2 dependents
- University transcripts, for the agency evaluation and the registrar
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Seattle Central
F-1 applicants upload documents with the Seattle Colleges online application; the request for dependents is a form in the same admission portal (source). Upload the translation together with the original it belongs to.
For credit, the translated copy goes to Seattle Central Admissions with the untranslated original, the sealed agency evaluation and the R-199 form, which is accepted only once the transcript and evaluation have arrived (source).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. At Seattle Central that means the course-by-course evaluation for credit from abroad comes from one of the agencies the registrar recommends; we translate the records you send them and the copy the registrar asks for.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
