University of California, Los Angeles: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
UCLA's graduate division reviews applications on uploaded unofficial records and, after admission, wants official records in the original language with an "authorized, complete, and exact" English translation, plus country rules such as no specially prepared English versions of French records. Undergraduates send nothing at application; once admitted, they send a certified English translation of any secondary transcript not issued in English, and college records in the original language with English translations, by July 1. UCLA does not say who may translate, except at Anderson, whose Executive MBA accepts your institution or an official translation service such as ATA-certified translations; UCLA does not use outside credential evaluations, so the translation, not an evaluation, is what you add to your records.
Authorized, complete, exact
The graduate translation standard, with a full grading scale.
July 1 for undergrads
Official transcripts and translations, after admission only.
Records go to departments
Admitted graduate students send records to the major program.
UCLA requirements at a glance
| What UCLA asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation (graduate) | Records in the original language with an authorized, complete and exact English translation; records must show the institution's full grading scale (source). |
| Who may translate | Not stated by UCLA's graduate division or undergraduate admission. Anderson EMBA: your institution or an official translation service such as ATA-certified translations (source). |
| Evaluation | None. UC does not use course evaluations from credential evaluation agencies, and Anderson asks you not to send outside evaluations (UC, Anderson). |
| Graduate submission | Upload unofficial records with the UCLA Application for Graduate Admission; after admission, official records and e-transcripts go to the major department (source, FAQ). |
| Undergraduate timing | Nothing at application ("do not send these documents now"); after admission, official transcripts by July 1, 2026 for fall 2026 entrants and test scores by July 15, unless your Admission Contract says otherwise (apply, admitted). |
| Undergraduate translation | A copy in the original language plus a certified English translation when the school issues no English version (source). |
| Official paper records | Only in a sealed school envelope stamped or signed across the flap; emailed transcripts are not official. Graduate applicants never send an irreplaceable original, but a properly certified copy (undergraduate, graduate). |
| Country rules (graduate) | China: MOE degree certificate. France: no specially prepared English versions. Germany: certified, complete, exact translations. South Asia: no Gazetted Officer attestation (source). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | UCLA's graduate policy asks for an authorized, complete and exact English translation (required academic records) and its undergraduate page for a certified English translation (admitted first-year); neither says who may make it, and the graduate page does not define "authorized". A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is a complete, certified translation. Anderson's Executive MBA explicitly accepts official translation services such as ATA-certified translations (source); eVerbary is an ATA corporate member. Policy checked on October 12, 2026. |

Graduate admission: authorized, complete, and exact
UCLA's Required Academic Records page sets the graduate standard: records in their original language, with an authorized, complete and exact English translation, and with the institution's full grading scale, including the highest and lowest marks. You apply with unofficial uploads and are reviewed on them; if admitted, you send official records, which UCLA defines as the original with the Registrar's actual signature and the institutional seal, or a properly certified copy if the original is irreplaceable. Official transcripts go to your major program, not to the Division of Graduate Education (FAQ).
The page does not say who authorizes a translation or who may make it. A certified translation from a professional service is complete, follows the original line by line, and carries a signed statement of accuracy; if in doubt, ask your department before ordering.
Graduate country rules: France, Germany, China, South Asia, Latin America
The same page adds rules by country (source). French records need a certified translation, and specially prepared English versions of French originals are not acceptable, so an English version prepared by your French university does not replace a certified translation of the record itself. German records stay in German with certified, complete, exact English translations. Chinese applicants send transcripts, the graduation certificate and the MOE degree certificate with an official English translation. Latin American records are sent in the original Spanish with complete, exact translations. For Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan, copies must be certified by the registrar or attested by a judge or magistrate; a Gazetted Officer's attestation is not accepted.
Anderson: Executive MBA and Full-Time MBA
The Executive MBA is the only UCLA page that names translators: the translation should be from your institution or completed by an official translation service, with ATA-certified translations given as the example. Scans are placeholders; if you are admitted and enroll, the institution emails official documents to EMBA admissions, and translations may be emailed directly. Anderson does its own evaluation and asks you not to send evaluations from an outside agency.
The Full-Time MBA asks for the complete transcript in the native language and a certified translation into English, uploaded with the application for a preliminary evaluation. Hard copies certified with the school's original seal are requested only after an interview invitation, and applicants are evaluated within their own country's grading system, not converted to 4.0.
Undergraduates, and where UCLA's pages differ
UCLA undergraduates share the UC Application and its self-reported grades with the other UC campuses, so nothing is translated at application (source). After admission, UCLA's own page asks for the original-language copy plus a certified English translation of any secondary transcript the school does not issue in English, due July 1, with A-Level results by the end of August if pending (source). Transfer students send all college records in the original language along with English translations (source).
UC-wide guidance says secondary records generally need no translation unless written in a non-Roman alphabet (UC), while UCLA's admitted-student page asks for a certified translation whenever the school has no English version. At graduate level, the graduate division says "authorized" in its general rule, "official" for China and "certified" for France and Germany, while Anderson EMBA names official translation services. We have not resolved these differences; follow the page for your level and program.
Documents applicants usually translate
- University transcripts or mark sheets with the full grading scale
- Degree diplomas or conferral statements, and the Chinese MOE degree certificate
- Secondary school transcripts and graduation certificate, for admitted first-year students
- National exam results such as the French Baccalauréat or the Abitur
- College records in the original language, for transfer students
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to UCLA
Graduate applicants upload unofficial records and translations with the UCLA Application for Graduate Admission; after admission, official records go to the major department as the offer instructs (source, FAQ). Anderson EMBA applicants upload scans as placeholders and translations may be emailed to EMBA admissions (source).
Admitted undergraduates follow the instructions in MyUCLA: official records arrive from the school through an e-transcript vendor such as Parchment or in a sealed envelope, with the original-language copy and the certified translation (source).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. At UCLA there is no evaluation to order; we cover the translation, and the official records, the sealed envelope and any registrar-certified copies come from your school.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need translated transcripts when I apply to UCLA as a first-year?
No. You self-report grades on the UC Application, and UCLA asks you not to send documents at that stage. If admitted, you send official records with a certified English translation if your school has no English version (apply, admitted).
What kind of translation does UCLA graduate admission require?
An authorized, complete and exact English translation submitted with the original-language records; UCLA does not name who must translate (source).
Can I submit an English version my French university prepared for me?
Not for UCLA graduate admission: specially prepared English versions of French originals are not acceptable. Send the French records with a certified English translation (source).
Does UCLA Anderson accept a professional translation service?
The Executive MBA does: your institution or an official translation service such as ATA-certified translations. It does not want outside evaluations (source).
Where do admitted UCLA graduate students send official records?
To the major program, not to the central graduate office (source).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
