Broward College: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
Broward College asks for a certified English translation linked to the American Translators Association (ATA) for academic records not in English: its international application asks for one from a member of the ATA, and other pages say an ATA certified company. Broward College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. eVerbary is an ATA corporate member (#273062). Foreign university transcripts also need a NACES course-by-course evaluation for a bachelor's degree or for transfer credit, which comes from an evaluation agency, not from us.
ATA translation
Asked for on every Broward page that covers non-English records.
Non-Latin scripts
F-1 high school diplomas need it when written in other characters.
Opt-out form
Associate-degree F-1 students can skip the evaluation and the credit.
Broward requirements at a glance
| What Broward asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation | A certified English translation tied to the ATA for non-English academic records (international, catalog). |
| Who may translate | A member of the ATA, or an ATA certified company, on the international page; an ATA-certified translator on the Registrar and foreign transcripts pages. Broward notes that evaluation companies typically include translation. |
| F-1 high school | Pick your diploma from the country list in the application; a translation is required when it uses non-English characters such as Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese or Japanese. Originals go in person to an Admissions Office (source). |
| Foreign university records | Original transcripts with complete grades, the ATA translation, and a NACES course-by-course evaluation naming upper- and lower-level courses and credits; a GPA too for bachelor's programs (source). |
| Electronic evaluations and translations | Accepted from International Education Evaluations, Josef Silny & Associates, SpanTran and WES (source). |
| Residents with foreign coursework | Same guidelines as F-1 students; non-English transcripts must be translated (source). |
| Timing | Documents before registration for your first term, or registration is blocked (catalog). F-1 Spring 2027: October 9, or November 13 for F-1 transfers in the US (source). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. Broward's international student page asks for a certified English translation "from a member of the American Translators Association" and, for university records, translation "by an ATA certified company"; eVerbary is an ATA corporate member (#273062). Some Broward pages word it as an ATA-certified translator; see below. Policy checked on October 13, 2026. |

High school: a translation only for some scripts
Broward's F-1 application steps have you choose the country where you finished secondary school and then pick your school, diploma or leaving certificate from a dropdown. British-system students pick their exam (GCE, CXC, BGCSE, WAEC, WASC, HKCE) instead and send no transcripts. On those international pages, the ATA translation of a high school credential is required when the document uses non-English characters, with Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese and Japanese as the examples.
The catalog admissions page, by contrast, says non-English academic records for all students need an ATA certified translation. If your diploma is in Spanish, Portuguese or French, the two sources point different ways; a certified translation removes the doubt. Copies go in the Supplemental Application for conditional admission, and the original diploma is brought in person to an Admissions Office at Central, North or South Campus or the Willis Holcombe Center.
University records: evaluation, opt-out and credit
Foreign university work needs the original transcript with complete grades, the ATA translation, and a commercial evaluation from a current NACES member: course by course, upper and lower levels identified, credits or hours, and a GPA if you are applying for a bachelor's degree (source). Broward accepts electronic evaluations and translations from IEE, Josef Silny & Associates, SpanTran and WES (source).
F-1 students seeking an associate degree can file the Opt-Out Credit form and skip the evaluation, giving up credit for those courses; Broward will not reimburse classes later found equivalent to ones taken abroad. Bachelor's students cannot opt out, and the transcripts and translation are required either way (source). British A-Level and AS-Level results are evaluated by Broward's own Evaluations Department; CAPE results need a commercial evaluation for credit (source).
Where Broward's pages differ
On who translates, the international page says "a member of the ATA" in the application step and "an ATA certified company" in the documents section; its transfer section, the foreign university transcripts page and the Registrar say an ATA-certified translator; the catalog says an official ATA certified translation. eVerbary is an ATA corporate member; we do not claim that each of our translators holds individual ATA certification. If you need a named ATA-certified individual, ask the Registrar before you order.
On unfinished degrees, the catalog's international section asks for a copy of your transcript even when courses are in progress, while the international page says transcripts with classes in progress do not meet admissions criteria. We have not resolved either difference.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Foreign university transcripts with complete grades, and degree certificates
- High school diplomas or leaving certificates written in non-Latin characters
- External exam certificates, such as GCE, CXC or WAEC results
- Transcripts from every college or university attended, including ones you left without a degree
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Broward
F-1 applicants attach copies of their records and translations to the International Student Supplemental Application, an online Dynamic Form opened with a personal email. After acceptance, official transcripts and the ATA translations go to the Registrar's Office (catalog, source).
The Registrar receives transcripts electronically from the issuing school, by mail to 4205 Bonaventure Blvd., Weston, or by drop-off at Central, North or South Campus in a sealed envelope (source).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For Broward that means we translate your diploma and university records; the NACES course-by-course evaluation and its GPA come from an evaluation agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Does Broward College accept a translation from a translation company?
Its international page asks for a certified translation from a member of the ATA, or by an ATA certified company (source). eVerbary is an ATA corporate member (#273062). Some Broward pages say an ATA-certified translator; ask the Registrar if you need an individually certified translator.
Does my high school diploma need a translation as an F-1 applicant?
Broward's international pages require it when the diploma uses non-English characters (source); the catalog says non-English records of all students need an ATA translation (source).
Can I skip the commercial evaluation?
F-1 students seeking an associate degree can file the Opt-Out Credit form and give up credit for prior courses; bachelor's students cannot. The transcripts and translation are still required (source).
Which agencies can send evaluations to Broward electronically?
International Education Evaluations, Josef Silny & Associates, SpanTran and WES (source).
I live in Florida and studied abroad. Do the same rules apply?
Yes. The Registrar says residents with foreign postsecondary coursework follow the same guidelines, and non-English transcripts must be translated (source).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
