Wake Technical Community College: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

Wake Tech asks for complete official secondary and college records with certified translations, and applies the same rule to bank letters, birth certificates and dependents' documents; it does not say who must translate. Wake Technical Community College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. An evaluation is often not needed for admission, but transfer credit requires a NACES course-by-course evaluation in addition to the translated transcript, and that evaluation is something we do not provide.

Evaluation for admissionOften not required; you may be asked for a general evaluation if your documents are not acceptable as presented (agency list).

Does it accept eVerbary?Yes. Wake Tech's international admission requirements ask for official academic records "with certified translations" and do not restrict who translates (admission requirements); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. One rule for every document: a certified translation

Wake Tech uses the same wording across its pages. F-1 applicants provide complete official academic records from secondary and post-secondary schools "with certified translations", and those records should show the courses taken, the grades, the grading scale, the secondary completion certificate and, where a national exam completes secondary school, the results from the Examination Council (admission requirements). The bank letter must be in English or accompanied by a certified translation; an applicant without a passport submits a birth certificate with a certified translation; and the marriage and birth certificates for dependents follow the same rule (source).

Because Wake Tech lists the grading scale and exam results among the records it reads, translate the legend that explains the marks and every page of the exam certificate, not only the transcript itself.

Residents and immigrants with a foreign diploma

The rule is not limited to F-1 students. The catalog asks every applicant whose high school was completed outside the US to submit transcripts and completion certificates, with certified translations if they are not in English, plus the Examination Council certificate when an exam is required for completion (catalog). These go to the Admissions Office by email or mail. Registration for later semesters is blocked if transcripts are not received within 30 days of the start of the first semester, and official transcripts are required before financial aid is awarded (source). Non-native speakers of English take the ACCUPLACER-EFL test.

Wake Tech's agency list says an evaluation is often not required for admission; you may be asked for a general evaluation only if your documents are not acceptable as presented (source).

Transfer credit: a translation and an evaluation

For courses taken at a college or university abroad, you need a "course by course" or "detailed" evaluation from a NACES member, and you submit it together with your official transcript, which must carry a certified translation if it is not in English (transfer equivalency). Wake Tech has no preferred company but lists discounted rates with International Education Evaluations and TEC: The Evaluation Company, and warns that it does not guarantee any credit, so weigh the cost against your program. Evaluation agencies set their own translation rules; see translation for credential evaluation.

Documents applicants usually translate

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to Wake Tech

F-1 applicants upload the records and their certified translations with the International Admissions Application; if anything is missing, Wake Tech emails instructions to upload it through the application portal before the deadline (source).

Other applicants send foreign high school records with their translations to the Admissions Office by email or mail (source). For transfer credit, the official transcript, its certified translation and the course-by-course evaluation go to Admissions, which scans them into your record for Registration & Records (source).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For Wake Tech that means we translate your records, bank letter and certificates; the NACES evaluation needed for transfer credit, or a general evaluation if Admissions asks for one, comes from an evaluation agency.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of translation does Wake Tech accept?

A certified translation; Wake Tech does not say who must make it (source). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.

Do I need a credential evaluation to be admitted to Wake Tech?

Often not. Wake Tech may ask for a general evaluation only if your documents are not acceptable as presented (source).

If I have an evaluation, do I still need a translated transcript for transfer credit?

Yes. Wake Tech asks for the official transcript with a certified translation together with the course-by-course evaluation (source).

I am a resident with a high school diploma from abroad. What do I submit?

Transcripts and completion certificates, with certified translations if not in English, and the Examination Council certificate if an exam completes secondary school (source).

Does my bank letter need a translation?

Yes, if it is not in English: a certified translation (source).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
